NAIROBI,Kenya, Jan, 18 – While being processed by Police before spending the night at the Kamukunji Police Station, businessman cum-politician Jimmy Wanjigi addressed the media behind metallic bars saying the truth and justice will reign supreme.

Wanjigi was arrested by detectives from the Serious Crime Unit of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations after a near 24-hour siege at his private offices at Kwacha house.

Despite pleading his innocence while being holed up inside a bunker within the establishment, police in tactical gear, forceful penetrated his offices and rushed him to the Kamukunji police station before being arraigned Wednesday.

Wanjigi pointed an accusing finger to high ranking members of the government for abusing their power and intentionally intimidating him from pursuing his political ambitions.

“This is persecution and I want to tell you this persecution that began many years ago when this jubilee government got to power. I want to say as my good friend the court clerk has told me, power has an expiry date, it is coming, it is very near,” sad Wanjigi.

Remaining optimistic despite his tribulations in the last couple of hours, the businessman said that time and the law will judge him fairly.

“And I want to tell those that believe that persecution of their fellow Kenyans and impunity of their fellow Kenyans that they shall face the wrath of God, it is coming and it is clear. They will face it clearly and loudly,”

Wanjigi is seeking to run for the presidency on an ODM ticket, but he has to battle it out with the party leader and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Events Of The Last 24 Hours?

Wanjigi first raised an alarm at around 9.30pm Monday, that armed men had attempted to forcefully make their way into his private offices without properly identifying themselves.

When the situation quickly escalated raising concerns over his safety, he is said to have retreated to a bunker within the private establishment.

Tuesday morning protesters descended at Kwacha house chanting pro Wanjigi slogans before anti-riot police were called into to disperse the crowd.

The operation to arrest the businessman was led by detectives from the Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU), Serious Crimes Unit (SCU) alongside others in a near 24 hour raid.

Wanjigi according to police is said to have been holed up inside his office domiciled at Kwacha House along General Mathenge Road barring any attempts to arrest him.
