KAKAMEGA,Kenya, Jan ,27 – ‘Kenya One’ as he was fondly nicknamed, Issac Juma, Kenya football’s, ultimate super fan is dead.
According to preliminary reports, the ardent football fan and Kenya’s unofficial mascot was hacked to death by an unknown assailant on Wednesday night at his Rukaya village home in Mumias,Kakamega county.
The incident is said to have occurred a around 11pm.
Western Regional police boss Peris Muthoni confirmed the incident saying that a suspect has been arrested and is being interrogated.
Police are also said to be pursuing a second suspect.
It remains unclear at this point why the deceased was targeted.
His brother and son are said to have narrowly escaped death as the machete wielding criminals escaped the scene.
Juma was pronounced dead at the Butere Sub-county hospital.
His colourful presence was a delight to players and fans alike as he entertained thousands during football matches
The 56 year-old was in 2011 awarded the Kenya Premir League (KPL) chairmn’s lifetime achievement award for his contribution to football fanaticism.
