SIAYA,Kenya, Jan, 28 (KNA) – Police will cast its net wide after the post mortem on the unknown bodies recovered along river Yala in a bid to uncover the perpetrators, police spokesman, Bruno Shioso has said.
Shioso who addressed the media outside Yala sub county hospital mortuary at the same time called on Kenyans to give the multi-agency forensic team time to carry out detailed investigations and avoid speculations.
The police spokesman, who was flanked by the chief government pathologist, Dr. Johanssen Oduor and forensic experts from the directorate of criminal investigations headquarters, said that proper investigations will start soon after the post mortem results.
“The DCI forensic team will go round the country, visiting all families that might be having missing persons to record their statements and see how they can proceed” said Shioso.
He said that the team carrying out the postmortem examination was also collecting samples that will will be profiled to help in investigations.
The spokesman said that so far, only two bodies have been positively identified and claimed.
“But they have not been collected by the families for the same reason that specimen must be collected” he said.
Chief government pathologist, Dr. Johanssen Oduor said they had done post mortem on 17 bodies so far.
“We have done 17 bodies so far and by the evening or tomorrow morning, we shall be through” said the chief government pathologist.
Dr. Oduor said that apart from the postmortem, DNA testing will be carried out as some of the bodies had decayed while others were just skeletons.
