BUNGOMA, Kenya, Jan 28- The Kenya Kwanza team led by Deputy President William Ruto stormed Bungoma County on Friday, for the first time after United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Ford Kenya inked a post-election deal.
With Ruto, was ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula.
The leaders held a series of roadside rallies, before eventually camping at the Bungoma Posta grounds, where they rooted for the Kenya Kwanza alliance, which they say focuses first on improving the country’s economy.
During the rally, DP Ruto detailed a series of interventions if elected President he will adopt, to ease the economic burden being carried by Kenyans.
He also hit out at the President Uhuru Kenyatta’s backed Azimio La Umoja movement, whose preferred presidential aspirant is former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, saying it has no solution for the current challenges Kenyans are facing.
He detailed the challenges as runaway insecurity and a failed economy, that has failed to accommodate all Kenyans, and mostly those in the lower cadre of the economy.
“Kenyans are wise. In the modern-day, they will not be bullied or cajoled to elect their leaders,” the Deputy President said.
“The people of Kenya will make a conscious decision and vote for their candidate of choice this August. We are united and determined to form the next Government.”
More than a hundred legislators attended the event.
Mudavadi reiterated DP Ruto’s sentiments, saying “Kenyans have taken an oath and spoken in one voice that they will not accept to be discriminated and divided.”
“Someone senior in this government once told me that they cannot allow the government to be in the hands of someone who is not a pedigree. It is only Kenyans who will decide who becomes President at the ballot come August 9th.”
Mudavadi continued with his onslaught on President Kenyatta, saying “he had disappointed Kenyans.”
He said his party ANC was strong, even after some Members of Parliament defected to Azimio la Umoja movement.
“The ones that remained are double the strength of those who have been bought by State House/Azimio machinery. We are not moved. I predict earthquake will deal with the defecting MPs at the right time.”
On his part, Wetangula expressed confidence that the Kenya Kwanza team shall form the next government.
He asked Kenyans to reject what he termed as “state projects” in a direct reference to the former Prime Minister, whose candidature is supported by the President.
