NAIROBI,Kenya, Jan, 28 – A cook at Upperhill Day Nursery school has been charged with defiling a 4 year-old girl within the school compound.

According to court documents, the accused, Alex Opicho Wafula is said to have committed the indecent act on January 26, 2022.

The victim’s mother is said to have noticed her child was in distress shortly after arriving home. Court documents further revealed that she noticed blood on her clothes and later established that she had been defiled.

“She called her husband who came home and took the stained clothes and the child to capital hill police station,The investigating officer then advised them to take the child to a hospital for treatment ” read a part of the police report.

Detectives later went to the school the next day to establish what transpired alongside the victim’s mother. The victim then led police to where the incident occurred.

The court was then informed that it was at a composit pit just behind the classrooms within the school compound.

“The father of the victim having had booked a defilement report which he claimed to have happened at the school” read the report.

Detectives are then shortly after said to have conducted an identification parade to positively identify the alleged perpetrator.

It was established that the school only had three males, two teachers and the cook.

The victim positively identified Wafula as the perpetrator.

Appearing before Nairobi chief Magistrate Wendy Micheni, the accused pleaded not guilty.

The prosecution and the victim’s lawyer pleaded with the court to deny the accused bail.

“Your honour its a sad incident that this happened to the victim at the school compound if the suspect is released on bail there is likely hood that the accused will go back to the said school hence interfering with witnesses ” said the victims lawyer.

A medical report on the matter is yet to be presented in court.

The suspect will remain in police custody until February 10,2022.
