    Fmr. Manager Water Resource Authority James Omondi Sentenced To 24 Years In Jail Or Pay Sh7.6 Million Fine

    NAIROBI,Kenya, Feb, 1 – Nearly 10 years after being accused of soliciting and receiving bribes from regional managers of the now Water Resource Authority, former finance manager James Omondi Ambuso has been slapped with a 24-year jail sentence or a fine of Sh7.6 million after he was found guilty in four counts.

    Appearing before Anti-Corruption chief Magistrate Eunice Kagure Nyutu , the former finance manager was said to have failed in his duty to safeguard public resources and instead used it to enrich himself.

    According to the charge sheet he was accused of corruptly soliciting for a benefit contrary to section 39 (3) of the anti-corruption and economic crimes Act No.3 of 2003 (now repealed) with section 27 (2) of the bribery Act 2016 and section 48 (1) of the anti-corruption and economic crime Act No. 3 of 2003.

    Between May,14,2012 and February 11,2013, he is said to have solicited for a benefit of cash amounting to Sh445,000 from Geoffrey Mworia as an inducement to facilitate continuous disbursement of operation and development funds to the Water Resource Management Authority, Mombasa regional office.

    Count three of nine saw the former finance manager charged with abuse of office contrary to section 46 as read with section 48 of the anti-corruption and economic crime act No. 3 of 2003.

    In count four, he is said to have between January, 12,2012 and April 20,2013 solicited for a benefit of cash amounting to Sh465,00 from Boniface Mbgeu as an inducement to facilitate continuous disbursement of operation and development funds to the Water Resource Management Authority, Tana River catchment area.

    In count eight, he is said to have between February 11,2012 and October 19,2012 solicited for a benefit of cash amounting to Sh465,00 from Boniface Mbgeu as an inducement to facilitate continuous disbursement of operation and development funds to the Water Resource Management Authority, Tana River catchment area.

    He was found guilty in for counts. He can appeal the ruling after 14 days.
