GARISSA, Kenya, Feb, 2 – Bernard Katana and Josphine Mbula will be detained by police for a further five days after they were accused of allegedly poisoning Garissa nominated Member of county Assembly Queen Teresia.

A Garissa court gave the orders days after they were arraigned for the offence.

They are alleged to have committed the offence on January 11,2021.

Meanwhile appearing before Chief magistrate Cosmas Maundu, a third suspect, Emily Ndunge was also arraigned after she was arrested in Mwingi.

The three suspects are alleged to have attempted to kill the MCA after mixing her prescribed syrup medication with an unknown substance suspected to be poison.

The second accused, Mbula, is the victim’s househelp.

The prosecution led by Victor Owuor sought the additional days in order to allow detectives to receive the results of the recovered suspected poisonous substances.

The substance was taken to the to government chemist in Nairobi for analysis.

They will be detained at the Madogo police station.

“As much as the respondent are entitled to bond. Their constitutional right to bond is not absolute, bonds can be denied where there are good reasons to do so,” said Maundu.

They will remain in custody until Monday next week amidst determination of a bail application.
