LAIKIPIA, Kenya, Feb (KNA) 5 – Detectives in Nyahururu town, Laikipia County are burning the midnight oil to unravel the mystery surrounding the disappearance and the murder of a Secondary school teacher whose body was discovered dumped in a water well on Friday two months after her disappearance.
The decomposing body of Miriam Wanjiru , a teacher at Bishop Louis Secondary School who went missing in December 17, last year was found dumped in a water well along that of an unidentified woman at Igwamiti village on the outskirts of Nyahururu town.
The second body was badly mutilated while the skull was also missing from the recovered body parts of Ms Wanjiru.
Laikipia County Commissioner Joseph Kanyiri who accompanied senior security officers to the scene noted that already eight suspects have been arrested in connection to the murder.
He said that police have been following up the matter since December 18, last year when the deceased was reported missing.
The second body is believed to be that of Ms Wanjiru’s house help who could have witnessed the murder.
The county commissioner has however noted that the second body was yet to be identified and was awaiting DNA testing to reveal its identity.
He said that though the first body was decapitated, police strongly believe that it belonged to Ms Wanjiru noting that the second body will be subjected to DNA testing.
Among those who have been arrested in connection to the murder include Ms Wanjiru’s husband , a relative and a taxi driver who reportedly transported the body to the scene where they were recovered among others.
A source privy to the investigations have said that the arrested men on Thursday led detectives to the scene where they had dumped the bodies.
Family, residents and local leaders have since called on police to ensure that those behind the murder are prosecuted.
The two bodies were moved to the Nyahururu County Referral hospital mortuary.
