    Fraud Charges Against InterConsult And MultiChoice Directors Deferred

    NAIROBI,Kenya, Feb, 9 – A Nairobi court had deferred fraud charges against Inter Consult Company Limited director Kariuki Mucheni to March,8, 2022.

    Mucheni alongside a MultiChoice director and two engineers are facing conspiracy to defraud Cementers Kenya Limited Sh895 million.

    The accused: Lavender Waindi, Wilson Karaba and Stanley Kebathi were presented before Milimani Law Courts Magistrate Wendy Micheni.

    The are accused to have made and possessed fake documents. They had initially been charged in January before Magistrate Jane Kamau where they denied the charges.

    “On diverse dates between February 2017 and April 2017 at an unknown location in Kenya being the directors of Inter consult Engineers Limited Conapex Consulting Engineers Limited  Archplans and head of legal compliance at MIH East Africa limited respectively jointly conspired together with intent to defraud Cementers Kenya Limited intentionally altered the structural integrity investigations report on proposed construction of office block for Multichoice Kenya Limited on plot Number  3734/421 dated February 2017 to favour the structural Engineer,Conapex Consulting Engineer ltd against Cementers Kenya and to demand Ksh895 Million from Cementers Kenya Limited,” read a section of the charge sheet.

    One of the accused, Lavender Lucky is alleged that on April,6 2017 at an unknown location in Kenya, incited Eugene Muchemi to extract part of the structural integrity investigative report of the said land parcel for Multichoice Kenya dated February 2017 that was to be presented to cementers limited. 

    They were released on a bond of Sh500,000 and one surety or a cash bail of Sh100,000.

    Meanwhile, out documents have revealed that Muchemi was in 2021 convicted of two counts of copyright infringement after being found guilty of being in possession of computers containing infringing Auto Card 2009 and 2013 software whose copyright is owned by Autodesk Inc.

    He was jailed for a year by a Nairobi court and ordered to pay a fine of Sh120,000 if he is to escape jail.

    He was further ordered to pay Ideate technologies, the authorized dealers of the software in Kenya, Sh240,000 as compensation or serve an additional 10 months in prison.
