BUSIA, Kenya, Feb 14- A police officer is in custody after he dropped the Occurrence Book in a pit latrine in an attempt to hide evidence in a disciplinary case against him.
Police constable Dennis Kinoti is being held at Butula Police Station in Busia County as his seniors investigate how the OB ended up in the station pit latrine.
The suspect had earlier called his senior and informed him of a missing book at the report desk.
Corporal Simon Marindany summoned Lukas Aramaina who maintained that he had handed over the book to the suspect.
The officers mounted a search and discovered it in a pit latrine within the police station.
According to a report at the station, Kinoti, the suspect threw the OB into the latrine to destroy evidence of an offense against him.
The suspect had been charged for the offense of assaulting a fellow police officer vide OB 5/11/2/2022.
He is reported to have hit one Tabitha Keiyo causing injuries on her head.
The book was safely retrieved and is being kept as an exhibit as the matter is being investigated.
