    Drug Trafficker Sentenced To Life in Prison, To Also Pay Sh20 Million Fine

    NAIROBI,Kenya, Feb, 17 – Anne Achieng Anyanga has been slapped with a life in prison sentence after being found guilty of trafficking psychotropic drugs namely Methamphetamine weighing 854.3 grams valued at Sh6.8million in a Ugandan registered motor vehicle in 2016.

    As part of her sentencing while appearing before Chief magistrate Martha Mutuku, the accused was also ordered to a pay a Sh20 million fine.

    Mutuku said that the sentencing went in hand with the value of the substance and evidence presented in court.

    “I have considered the mitigation and the value of the drugs in question ,i herby order the accused to pay a fine of Sh20m in addition to serve life sentence” ruled Mutuku.

    According to court documents, the vehicle used belonged to Modern 5 of Modern Coast Bus Company.

    Detectives during the period of the case while testifying told the court that the accused was arrested along the Naivasha Nairobi highway in Nakuru county.

    Detectives also arrested a woman that was in her company.

    Detectives revealed that upon stopping the vehicle, they were escorted to the Naivasha police stsion and that upon routine search drugs were found in the accused luggae. It was hidden inside a brown box carton which had a black polythene bag and 53 plastic brushes.

    The vehicle was traveling from Uganda.

    Mutuku said that the case was proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

    The prosecution led by Anderson Gikunda had asked the court to issue the  maximum sentence to against Akinyi.

    “I thus proceed to convict the first accused on charge under section 215 of the criminal procedure code”, the magistrate ruled.

    Her co-accused Elizabeth Akinyi was acquitted after the court found that no evidence presented by the prosecution linked her with the commission of the offence before court.
