    ‘MP Babu Owino Walked Free After Alleged Murder Charges…Why Deny Me bond?’ Man Asks Court

    NAIROBI,Kenya, Feb, 18 – A Pakistani national arraigned at the Milmani Law Courts Friday and charged with illegally obtaining goods worth Sh10 million resorted to humour and sarcasm in a bid to gain the court’s mercy and be granted bail.

    Muhammad Adnan Tahir, who is a businessman, invoked the name of Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino, saying that if the legislator was released on bail after he was allegedly accused of attempted murder, then he too deserves be granted his bail application.

    “Sir why is the prosecution objecting to my release on bail,this guy, Babu Owino shot someone on the neck and he is still walking free” said Muhammad.

    Appearing before Senior Principal magistrate R.K Ondieki, the accused sought the court’s leniency and pleaded to be released on favorable bail terms.

    He also cited that he is married to a Kenyan woman and that he is not a flight risk.

    The prosecution via state counsel Patience Bange had opposed his release saying that the suspect is in possession of three different passports.

    According to court documents, Tahir is alleged to have obtained 2,165 packs of high count 28 pack bag diapers valued at Sh4.8 million and at the same time obtained 1,900 pieces of water Dispenser and normal standing valued at Sh5.5 million.

    He is alleged to have committed the offence on diverse dates in March 2018 at New Be company Limited  in Embakasi area, Nairobi county.

    He is said to have been the director of ASQAM Merchandising Company limited at the time of the incident. 

    The goods are said to be the property of the New Be company limited.

    The court will issue a ruling on the bail application on February,22,2022.
