BARINGO,Kenya, Feb, 20 – The Endorois community, living along the shores of the Lake Bogoria say that they will petition the national assembly including the senate over the adverse effects of climate change that has affected their lives resulting in poor access to roads, schools and health facilities following the rising water levels.
The bursting of the river banks has seen their lives become affected despite efforts to cope with the glaring challenges.
The petition signed by 40 elder members of the community has seen residents call for the construction of a secondary school in Chemorongion where students from the insecurity prone region are forced to walk at least 10 kilometers to seek an alternative to learning.
The rate of school dropouts and teenage pregnancies is also said to be on the rise.
The petition also seeks to have the construction of special schools to cater for children with special needs.
Health care facilities in Loboi,Mugurin,Sandai and Maji Moto are also said to be unable to serve residents amidst cases of snake bites.
If adopted, the petition will see the community receive budget allocation either through the National treasury or equalization fund.
