GARISSA,Kenya, Feb, 20 – Police Saturday evening repulsed a suspected Al-Shabaab attack on Amuma Border Patrol Police unit camp.

A report filed at Hagadera police station in Fafi sub county indicated that the militants launched a Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) into the camp at about 7:30 Saturday.

“The Amuma Bpu camp was probed by suspected Alshabaab militias at about 2130hrs. They fired Rpgs into the camp but were repulsed by the alert officers,” read part of the report.

The report further stated that there was no casualty or injuries recorded at the camp.

A security officer who sought anonymity spoke to Shahidi News and said tension remains high in the area amidst a manhunt for the militants who fed into the wilderness.

The incident came as security agencies in Mandera continued with a search for a medical officer who was abducted on Friday evening.

The medical officer identified as Jackson Kabuu worked at Fino health Centre in Lafey Sub County along the Kenya Somalia border.

The victim was allegedly initially abducted together with two others by five armed assailants, however the two were released before the abductors crossed into Somalia with the medic.

Mandera County Commissioner Onesmus Kyatha said efforts to rescue the medic are underway.
