    Gov’t To Withdraw Bank Guarantee For Contractors Yet To Commence Presidential Flagship Projects

    NAIROBI,Kenya, Feb, 23 – The government has put on notice two companies accused of failing to commence construction works on two major roads in Siaya county despite receiving a downpayment nearly two months ago.

    Area county commissioner Mohammed Barre now says that it will withdraw its guarantee against M/s Gogni Rajope construction company limited and M/s Ceabud engineering Services Limited.

    Got Nanga – Bar Ober road in Ugenya constituency and Bondo – Uyawi – Liunda road in Bondo constituency were set to be upgraded to bitumen standard in line with the presidential flagship programme.

    “We want the contractors to handle the matter with the seriousness it deserves and if it does not materialize, we shall have to resort to withdrawing the bank guarantee” said Area county commissioner Mohammed Barre.

    Barre made the remarks while visiting various state projects in the county alongside Bondo MP, Dr. Gideon Ochanda and Presidential Delivery unit directors Jared Buoga AND Richard Tuta.

    Residents had accused the government of failing to honour its promises saying that he two road projects are key to enhancing the area’s economic fortunes.

    “The two projects were scheduled to commence in December last year and the contractors have already received funds for mobilization but nothing has been done so far. The contractors need to begin work immediately to avoid further delays failure to which we will be forced to take legal actions” said Tuta

    A representative of the companies, Francis Mogera,however said that they had agreed with the government on timelines on when they project should kick off and be completed.
