KIAMBU,Kenya, Mar, 8 – Protests ensued Tuesday morning as police raided a compound in Ebenezer village in Juja, Kiambu County where scores of suspected Ethiopian nationals were apprehended in a suspected human trafficking syndicate.

According to preliminary reports, a scuffle is said to have ensued at the house where the suspects were being detained as residents quickly notified police officers.

Protests shortly after erupted at the property with residents demanding to know who the people were and whether the owner of the house was involved in the alleged crime.

“I do not know how they came here, or even how they left yet the owners of the house are my neighbor,. We need security in our area,” said Kimani, a resident.

Six people were arrested by police from Juja police station and are said to have been ferrying the Ethiopians in the night as a Toyota Noah vehicle is also said to have been used to ferry them in and out of the compound.

The vehicle has since been impounded by police amidst investigations.

“We condemn the incidents, we must defend our community. When the pass left with them we did not know whether it was a ploy, we need to know what happened because these people are foreigners,” said Mike John, a resident.

Reports indicate that the foreigners were are aged between 15 and 30 years.

Juju has made headlines in the past and recently with similar cases being reported in the area.
