    KCPE Day 2: Gov’t Deploys Choppers To Deliver Exams Across Northern Kenya

    GARISSA,Kenya, Mar, 7 –  North Eastern regional commissioner James Kianda has revealed that the government continues to deploy choppers to deliver examination papers for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams in Mandera, Wajir and Garissa.

    Kianda said that it was far more effective to deliver the exam papers to far flung areas across the former Northern Frontier District with road networks proving to be time consuming and even dangerous.

    The government is particulalry targeting areas along the Kenya-Somalia border as well as areas within the Kenya-Ethiopian border.

    “We are delivering the examination papers to Hulugho, Galmagala, Liboi, Kulan in Garissa, Eastern parts of Habassweini in Wajir and Arabiya, Takaba in Mandera,” he said further saying that,”KNEC in liaison with Interior and Education ministries have deployed some choppers that are delivering exams to the far flunk areas and that includes the borders,”

    The move is also part of government efforts to guarantee the security of security personnel and center managers amidst attacks by Al-Shabaab.

    So far, Border patrol officers as well as KDF personnel have ben deployed around the area to ensure security prevails during the examination period.

    “The security forces are all working together in making sure that we secure this examination. The KDF and our border patrol units are managing the borders to make sure that there is no interference from any other quarter out there. “Every security officer in the region is directly or indirectly involved in this process,” he added,” Kianda said

    Kianda made the announcement while presiding over the distribution of examination materials across Garissa county.

    A total of 12,189 boys and 8,839 girls are sitting for their KCPE in 582 centres in the North Eastern region this year.

    Additionally, there are 1,834 boys and 1,207 girls from refugees sitting for the examinations.

    According to the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC), a total of 1,225,693 candidates are sitting the examinations.

    Candidates began the exams with Mathematics,English and English composition exam on Monday.

    Science paper,Kiswahili Lugha,Kiswahili Insha and Kenyan sign language will dominate day two on Tuesday while on Wednesday, candidates will sit for their Social studies and religious education paper.
