NAIROBI,Kenya,Mar, 11 – ODM Party leader and Azimio La Umoja presidential hopeful Raila Odinga has been summoned by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) over alleged hate speech remarks.

According to NCIC, Odinga is said to have made a series of remarks during a political event in Wajir before uttering the word, ‘madoadoa’ which is considered a hate speech term in Kenya.

“The commission wishes to assure Kenyans of its commitment to curbing any form of hate speech, to ensure Kenya remains stsbsle, prosperous and cohesive nation and to deliver our promise of ‘Elections Bil Noma,” read a stamens from NCIC.

His political detractors had earlier on called on the commission to summon Odinga and take action against him.

“Recently, our colleague Linturi was arrested and charged over a slip of the tongue. The day he was alleged to have committed the offence, the senator did not sleep in his house after police officers were sent to arrest him. Linturi and DP Ruto had to issue an apology following the remarks. We, therefore, demand that the DCI and NCIC move swiftly to arrest and charge Raila,” said Tharaka Nithi senator, Kithure Kindiki.

The elders further called on the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) to charge him in court to avoid applying the law selectively.

Raila is said to have urged Wajir residents to vote for Azimio La Umoja candidates while making the remarks that continue to elicit mixed reactions.
