NAIROBI,Kenya, Mar, 21 – Over the weekend a video of a woman shouting for help along the busy Thika Superhighway while inside a Probox vehicle went viral with motorists who captured the incident expressing concern over her safety.

According to preliminary reports, the woman could been seen screaming as she opened the vehicle’s front passenger seat allegedly attempting to jump out of the speeding vehicle, registration number KBJ 835Z.

Days after the Saturday night incident, the driver,James Maina Kibe was arraigned alongside her Kenyatta University student girlfriend, Karen Wanjiru where he was charged with one count of reckless driving contrary to section 47 of the traffic act cap 403.

Appearing before Senior principal magistrate Esther Kimilu, the accused sought leniency from the court saying that the alleged victim was his girlfriend and that they were involved in a slight misunderstanding.

“Your honour she is my girlfriend and she is here in court, I pray for forgiveness” said Kibe.

The incident occurred on March,19,2022 along the busy Thika Superhighway at around 11pm.

Kimilu while issuing her ruling said that the accused had endangered the lives of other motorist even though no accident was recorded as a result of his driving.

“I have considered the mitigation of the accused person and the fact that no accident was caused by the reckless driving of the accused but I have also considered the fact that he endangered other road users” ruled Kimilu.

The accused was slapped with a fine of Sh70,000 or serve a one year jail term.

His driving license was also suspended.
