KISUMU,Kenya, Mar, 21 – Police in Kisumu East Monday morning prevented a family from desecrating the grave of their nine year-old deceased son in a bizarre incident following claims that he would ‘rise from the dead’.

According to preliminary reports, the deceased’s father, Okoth Obudo was under the belief that his son would be ‘restored’ to the land of the living following a prophesy by his spiritual leader.

Obudo alongside other family members are said to have commenced exhuming the deceased’s body in the morning. The deceased passed away four months ago.

The worrying incident however came to a halt after neighbors notified police of the alarming incident.

“According to my spiritual leader, my son who was buried four months ago was to come back to life last evening,” said Obudo.

The family belong to the Roho Msalaba church which is part of the Legio Maria religious sect.

“The family led by the deceased’s father were found having scooped some soil halfway inside the grave. They were stopped immediately,” said area sub county police commander James Musyimi.

Concerned neighbors told Shahidi News that the incident was ‘quite alarming and shocking’ and that the family really believed that they would be reunited with their loved one.

“They said that a church leader had told them that their son would resurrect. It was really bizarre,” said Maureen Adhiambo,a neighbor.

The deceased father and other family members have now been summoned to record statements by police.
