NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 28- Deputy President William Ruto has hit back at President Uhuru Kenyatta, over claims that he had planned to impeach him.

The Deputy President said it was impossible for him to campaign for the President only to later plan how he would remove him from office.

The claims are said to have been made by the President during a meeting at State House in Nairobi attended by some 3,000 elders from the Mt Kenya region.

While dismissing the accusations, he said those in President Kenyatta’s led Azimio la Umoja coalition had resulted to spread false information and propaganda against him, “because Kenyans have rejected their project.”

By project, he meant former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who has received massive backing from the President and more than 20 parties.

“I am not a drunkard or an insane person to support a government and then plan to impeach it…,” the Deputy President asserted.

He was speaking during a political rally in Malindi, to market his presidential bid.

“You must be confusing me with your project,” he said. “It is his project that has a record of attempting to overthrow a government and also who sworn himself in after losing an election.”

He added that “Respect those of us who campaigned for Uhuru Kenyatta and made him a President.”

“I know what I must do as a Deputy President, and I would never be part of anything that would bring down the government of Kenya.”

His words to those accusing him of turning against the President were; “shame on you.”

“Those spreading those lies, shame on you, you deserve nothing but shame!”

DP Ruto is seeking to become Kenya’s fifth President on the United Democratic Alliance party, after his fallout with the President and the ruling Jubilee party.

Jubilee is among the parties rooting for Odinga, while Ruto is in the Kenya Kwanza coalition, alongside leaders like Amani National Congress boss Musalia Mudavadi, Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula, Chama Cha Kazi leader Moses Kuria and Tujibebe leader William Kabogo.
