NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 30- Celebrated digital content creator Lynn Ngugi has been awarded this year’s best digital content creator- women in film awards.
An excited Ngugi dedicated her award to the hundreds of people she has interviewed.
Ngugi, whose YouTube channel has more than 350,000 subscribers, is known for her humanitarian stories and her amazing interviewing skills.
The journalist was formerly working for Tuko.co.ke.
“Thank you for trusting me with your stories,” Ngugi said in a Tweet.
She enjoys a massive following on her all-online media platforms, with the impact of her stories going beyond Kenya.
Recently, she highlighted a story where a 3-year-old was tortured to death.
On Wednesday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced the prime suspect, who was identified as Phyllis Njeri.
A second suspect was also arrested alongside Njeri.
The DCI said she was arrested at Illasit village, close to the Kenya-Tanzanian border.
A team of detectives drawn from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) and the Homicide branch led the operation.
During an interview with Ngugi, the minor’s mother stated that she left the 3-year-old and his 6-year-old brother under the care of Njeri when she left the country in November 2021 for Saudi Arabia.
Barely four months after her departure, Njoki received the devastating news of her son’s brutal killing, triggering online outrage by Kenyans who called on the DCI to bring the suspect to justice.
“Sleuths based at the Corporate Communications and Public Affairs unit gathered information circulating on social networking platforms regarding the baby’s murder most foul and shared details of the incident to the elite teams,” the DCI stated.
“Investigations were launched immediately, unearthing gory details of how angel David was brutally murdered by Njeri and her husband Jackson Ngui, while his horrified elder brother Peter Ndung’u watched in shock.”
