NAIROBI,Kenya, Apr, 1 – Months after the appellate court issued stay orders against the arrest of Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss George Kinoti, the court is Friday expected to pronounce itself on the matter and rule on whether he will serve a four month jail sentence.

The High Court had issued the ruling against him ordering the inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to effect the arrest order on November 29,2021.

Kinoti was accused of disobeying orders back in June 2019 requiring him to surrender and handover seven firearms and ammunitions belonging to businessman cum-politician Jimi Wanjigi.

The firearms were recovered from Wanjigi’s home in Muthaiga following a police sanctioned raid in 2017.

The DCI boss however on December 9,2021 through Attorney General Paul Kihara Kariuki filed an appeal challenging Judge Antony Mrima’s ruling committing Kinoti to civil jail.

Kihara in his application said that Mrima erred in law by committing Kinoti to jail without being heard while arguing that ti was not the responsibility of the DCI boss to keep or store civilian firearms.

Appeal court judges Fatuma Sichale, Imaana Laibuta and Mbogholi Msagha are expected to rule on the matter.
