NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 2- Nairobi Governor Ann Kananu has vowed to totally transform health and education in Nairobi if she is elected governor on the August 9 general election.

Speaking at Pumwani Maternity Hospital on Saturday, where she was accompanied by over 20 city MCAs, Kananu said that matters of health and education must be prioritized.

“In my first three months in office, I will make sure heath and education are prioritized especially in informal settlements,” said the Governor.

Kananu said she wants to be remembered for transforming the City’s education and health facilities.

She said she will work in hand with the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS), national government and other organisation to make Nairobi better for all.

“As you can see, we have tried to resolve the traffic congestion menace in the city. Our mutual working relation with NMS has also improved the services in our Capital City,” she said.

Kananu also urged Nairobi residents and Kenyans at large to register in big number for Linda Mama and Nationa Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) programmes.

On politics, Kananu called on Kenyans to vote for visionary leaders.

She campaigned for ODM leader Raila Odinga.

“Our president Uhuru Kenyatta is on record supporting health services. Raila Odinga has also promised to continue with President Uhuru’s legacy,” said Kananu.

Nairobi woman representative Esther Passaris, who was present during the event, said Nairobi must elect leaders who are ready for developments.

“Nairobians must elect leaders who are ready to serve and are development-oriented,” she said.

Roysambu MCA Peter Warutere who is also the health committee chair at the assembly said Pumwani has been transformed.

“These are the fruits of devolution. Let’s be happy that our leaders are in good working relations,” he said.

Pumwani Maternity Hospital administrator Dan Aboka thanked Kananu for her overwhelming support.

Kananu has been issuing maternity materials, including diapers, baby wipes among other items to Pumwani Hospital.

“She is a good leader, actually she went round the facility to personally pay for any mother who had given birth,” said Aboka.
