MOMBASA,Kenya,Apr, Ali Mwatsau, a Mombasa based politician escaped death by a whisker after his vehicle was sprayed with more than 20 bullets in Tudor area.
According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred on Tuesday at around 10pm with witnesses saying the suspects were in two separate vehicles.
The aspirant is said to be seeking the Mvita parliamentary seat on a UDA ticket.
The injured politician was quickly rushed to hospital and is said to be in stable condition. He is said to have sustained injuries on his arm and legs.
The victim’s friends termed the incident as ‘a failed assassination plot’ further saying that the suspects quickly sped off after the incident.
According to his family he was driving home after leaving the mosque before he was accosted by the gunmen.
The victim’s vehicle has since been impounded at the local police station amidst investigations.
