NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 7- Kenyatta National Hospital has received a whopping Sh11.7 billion, in 2022-2023 budget estimates presented to Parliament on Thursday.
In the budget estimates, Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yattani allocated Sh11.7 billion to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.
He further allocated some Sh7.7 billion to Kenya Medical Training College and Sh2.9 billion to the Kenya Medical Research Institute.
During the financial year, the Ministry of Health was allocated Sh146.8 billion.
Of these, he said Sh62.3 billion is for Universal Health Coverage, with Sh7 billion for the purchase of Covid-19 vaccines and related expenditure, Sh4.1 billion for the free maternity health care program also known as Linda Mama and Sh5.2 billion for Managed Equipment Service and Sh1.8 billion for the medical cover of elderly and severely disabled persons.
In a bid to lower the cases of HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis, Sh16.2 billion was allocated and Sh5.2 billion to enhance the vaccines and immunizations program.
He said some Sh1.1 billion was allocated to the construction of Kenya National Hospital Burns and Pediatric Centre and Sh1.2 billion for the procurement of family planning and reproductive health commodities.
In the budget, Sh1.3 billion was allocated for the construction of a Cancer Centre at the Kisii level five hospital and Sh619 million for the procurement of equipment at the National Blood Transfusion Services.
