NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 9- Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua is on Sunday expected to meet the governing council of his party, the Maendeleo Chap Chap, in a move that has raised eyebrows.

Mutua said the purpose of the meeting is to discuss what he termed “options available to the party as we approach the 2022 general elections.”

“We will communicate our position immediately after the meeting,” the Machakos Governor said.

Mutua is among leaders who dropped their presidential bids to support former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, under the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya alliance.

His party was among 7 others that accused Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement, the ruling Jubilee party and Kalonzo Musyoka led Wiper party of sidelining smaller parties within the alliance.

Odinga later met the leaders of said parties and announced that a truce had been found.

Before the truce, Mutua has warned that he had political options and had even hinted at either reviving his presidential bid or jumping ship to another coalition.

The bone of contention was what the 8 parties termed as the exclusion and opaque nature of the documents they were committing to in the agreement had been handled.

The parties were also against zoning by the big parties, ahead of the polls.

Recently, Mutua met political aspirants within his party.

“I call on our aspirants to Champion development for our people as enshrined in our party philosophy. We are keeping our sights trained on coalitions in the country. We have discussed that and asked what our station is in those alliances,” he said during the April 7 meeting.

“Our conversation on that matter is still in progress and I am confident that whatever decision we reach will be in the best interest of our party members and our country Kenya.”

On April 6, Mutua alongside the officials of 7 other parties within Azimo had issued a number of demands to Odinga.

“There is an indication the leadership of Azimio is made up of three parties only: Jubilee, ODM and Wiper. Leaving out the other founding parties,” he said.
