NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 10- A political deal brokered by Deputy President William Ruto has seen Senator Johnson Sakaja declared the Kenya Kwanza gubernatorial candidate, for Nairobi County.
This is after Bishop Margaret Wanjiru, once a legislator in Starehe stepped down.
The City Bishop will now run for the Senatorial seat in Nairobi, the Deputy President announced on Saturday.
“I want all our supporters and all our party members to understand, and even all our other party leaders to understand that coalition comes with several challenges. And one of those challenges is that there must be give and take,” Wanjiru said after the meeting at Deputy President’s Official Residence in Karen.
The Deputy President said Sakaja is, “a leader who measures up to the challenges facing our City.”
The race for City Hall has attracted several politicians and business people, all seeking to run the affairs of East Africa’s largest city.
Among those in the race include the incumbent governor Anne Kananu, who is seeking to defend a position she controversial assumed, following the impeachment of former Governor Mike Sonko.
Sonko will be running on a Wiper Party ticket, for the position.
The Deputy President, Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi and Senator Moses Wetangula of Ford Kenya have resulted in brokering deals, to avoid sibling rivalry within the Kenya Kwanza coalition.
This has also eased tension within the coalition and more so now when the parties are heading the primaries.
