NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 15- Deputy President William Ruto has linked the current fuel crisis to the late opening of several polling stations on Thursday, when members of his party, the United Democratic Alliance participated in its primaries.
Out of the 16,000 polling stations, the Deputy President said only 200 had issues.
There are cases of violence and rigging claims in some parts of the country and more so in Bomet County.
In most of the areas where the exercise was held, there was no incident reported.
“This exercise has reinforced our belief that the foundation of our country should never be about personality cults and ethnic Balkanisation,” the Deputy President said.
There were more than 5,000 various elective seats that participated in the primaries.
With the primaries, he said, “it is possible for a political party, young as UDA, to deliver a democratic, credible, free and fair election,” the DP said.
The Deputy President hailed the police for maintaining law and order during the UDA primaries.
“We have successfully delivered at least 60 percent of what the IEBC does with one percent budget of the IEBC,” he told a press conference at the Hustler Center in Nairobi on Thursday evening.
“It was almost a near general election.”
He announced that there will be a repeat election in areas marred by violence on Tuesday next week.
