NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 25- Girls in Narok County have performed well in the just-released Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), despite the challenges they face in their education journey.

Namunyak Girls, with a mean grade of 9.1, and Sekenani Girls with a mean grade of 5.7 both in Narok West Sub County are among the Girls’ schools that performed well in the County.

Most of the girls from the two schools are those who are rescued from early marriages and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) where a number of them are donor sponsored.

Namunyak Girls’ Principal Cecilia Teeka said that she had 84 candidates who sat for the first-ever National Examination in the school.

The school had 28 girls scoring B+ (plus), 49 scored B plain, six scored B- while one student scored C+, meaning all the girls in the school have qualified to join university. In Sekenani Girls’, 15 out of the 70 girls met university entry qualifications.

She expressed confidence that as the school grows, it will continue producing better results encouraging girls that they too have the potential to perform just like the boys.

“I am happy my school is one of the best in the County. I thank God for giving us the victory. I also laud the students and teacher for working hard to produce such impressive results,” she said.

Another school in a celebratory mood is Masikonde Day Mixed School which produced four students with an average of A-(minus) grade.

The school despite admitting vulnerable students who cannot afford the boarding school fees beat all odds to produce scores of students with university entry grades.
