NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 26- Four suspects accused of drugging passengers in a Public Vehicle Service (PSV) on the night of April 23 will remain in police custody, pending the conclusion of investigations.

They are Stephen Odero, Benson Hamisi, Harrison Nyamu, and Joshua Orengo.

The incident happened inside an Easy Coach bus that was heading to Nairobi from Kisumu.

The bus driver took the bus to the Kabete police station after he realized all his passengers had been drugged and their items were stolen.

The four are held at the station. The four are suspected of having administered stupefying drugs to the passengers.

Police suspect that the four also administered the drugs to themselves as a cover-up for the crime as they were allegedly found with items belonging to passengers including mobile phones and laptops although they were also partially affected by the drugs.

“The driver after being alerted drove the bus to Kabete police station where a search on passengers was done and the four were found in possession of stolen items,” police constable James Kariuki of Kabete police station said in a sworn affidavit seen by Shahidi News.

The detective said he needed the period to allow him and his colleagues to conclude investigations.

“The complainants (passengers) allege that the thieves were in the same bus posing as passengers.”

He will use the extra days to record the complainants’ and witnesses’ statements and ascertain ownership of the recovered stolen items.

The four have since denied taking part in the organized theft and claimed they were travelling like the rest.

The suspects will be held until Wednesday next week following the orders granted by Senior Resident Magistrate Renee Kitangwa.
