NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 26- The number of people seeking to be Raila Odinga’s running mate ahead of the August 9 polls has increased after NARC proposed its party leader Charity Ngilu for consideration.
Ngilu recently led a group of women within the Odinga-led Azimio la Umoja One Kenya alliance in supporting NARC Kenya party leader Martha Karua for the position.
A committee set by the Azimio Council-whose membership includes President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to recommend suitable names for consideration by Odinga.
Ngilu is also seeking to defend her current position as the Kitui County Governor.
Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, who is also the Wiper Party leader and the One Kenya Alliance caucus leader, has insisted that he is the most suitable person to be Odinga’s running mate.
Over the weekend, Musyoka said Odinga stood smaller chances of winning if he will not pick him as a running mate.
Musyoka commands a majority of the 2 million Ukambani votes.
He has been Odinga’s running mate in the previous two elections.
