NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr, 29 – The State Funeral of former president Mwai Kibaki at the Nyayo Stadium was disrupted for a few seconds after a man stormed the dais where Archbishop Antony Muheria was delivering his sermon eulogizing the late president.

Almost appearing out of nowhere, the man, identified as Allan Makana, clad in jeans, a white t-shirt, and a black jacket gingerly approached Archbishop Muheria and sought permission to address the national audience.

“Allow me just two minutes to make a few remarks,’ said the man repeatedly as he was received in a tight embrace but the archbishop.

Security officers in suits shortly after grabbed the man, as Muheria urged them to treat him well.

“He is a son of our nation who is emotional  at the loss of a president…treat him well,” said Archbishop Muheria.

It is yet to be established how the man managed to evade security officers while finding his way to the podium.

Coincidentally, Makana, was earlier this week forced by police officers manning parliament buildings to vacate the premise during the viewing of Kibaki’s body as it lay in state.

The man who is said to hail from Bungoma county could be seen in a video in tears pleading with officers to be allowed inside the building in order to give his respects to the country’s third president.

“I have been looking for this opportunity to tell him goodbye,” said the teary man.

Police sought to have him put on his shirt in order to be allowed access, though their efforts proved futile, and instead decided to ask him to leave the area.

“Wear your shirt so that you can go and see him,” said police officers outside parliament buildings.

“I need to see him..it has been a long time looking for him,” said a crying Makana as he sat on the ground.

Security officers will upon a full debriefing session seek to establish the lapse in security at the presidential event.

Kibaki will be laid to rest at his Othaya home in Nyeri county.
