    Pictures: Mwai Kibaki’s Cortège Through Central Kenya Towns To Othaya

    NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 30- The body of former President, the late Mwai Kibaki has arrived in Othaya, Nyeri County for the State Burial Service and interment.

    The cortège of former the late Kibaki traversed through several Central Kenya towns and market centres on its way to Othaya.

    Kibaki died last week on Friday, aged 90 years.

    He was Kenya’s third President and is being hailed for reviving the country’s economy during his tenure.

    He also ushered in the new 2010 constitution said to be among the most progressive in the world.

    The body was received by President Uhuru Kenyatta in Othaya.

    Other leaders present include Deputy President William Ruto, former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

    Along the route, Central Kenya residents came out, braving the early morning cold weather, to bid farewell to a political kingpin who served the region as Othaya Constituency MP for a record 35 years in his long public service career spanning 5 decades.

    Kibaki who served Kenya as the third president from 2002 to 2012 died aged 90.

    On Friday, his funeral service at Nyayo Stadium was attended by thousands, with more than 20 top dignitaries among them President Salva Kiir of South Sudan, Ethiopia’s Sahle-Work Zewde and South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa present.
