NAIROBI, Kenya, May 1- Deputy President William Ruto has hit back at his boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta after he was accused of neglecting duties and inciting Kenyans against the government.
During the Labour Day celebrations held at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday, the President accused his Deputy of inciting Kenyans over the increase in the cost of basic commodities in the country.
But the President said DP Ruto was ‘dishonest’ saying the cost of living had increased because of the global COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.
“It comes a time when we must tell each other the truth. Where have you been when I need you most,” he said.
In a quick rejoinder, the Deputy President said, “sorry my boss, I feel your pain.”
He told the President to shift the blame to those he assigned his responsibilities and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
He said, “they have failed you miserably.”
He revealed that the last Cabinet meeting was held two years ago.
A visibly agitated President said Odinga, “though he had his own issues,” came at the right time to support him.
Most of the Deputy President’s responsibilities were assigned to Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiangi in an Executive Order.
“You know the current challenges are not man-made, where are you when I need you?” the President posed.
The new development comes a day after the burial of Kenya’s gentleman of politics, the late Mwai Kibaki.
