NAIROBI, Kenya, May 2- Police are investigating the death of nominated Member of Parliament David Ole Sankok’s son on Monday afternoon.

According to reports, the high school student shot himself dead using the MP’s gun.

It is not yet clear what were the circumstances surrounding the death, police said.

Police said they were investigating how Sankok’s son accessed the legislator’s firearm which had been locked inside a safe in the house.

Preliminary reports indicate that the Nominated MP confronted his son after he failed to report back to school where he was to due to join Form Four.

Memusi Sankok,15, shot himself using his father’s pistol on Monday afternoon after taking it from a safe in his father’s bathroom.

The younger Sankok was a Form Four student at Kericho High School.

According to the family, the boy was to return to school last week. The father who was out of the country sent pocket money and for shopping.

“He instead disappeared from the home only returned yesterday. The father also returned home yesterday Sunday,” said a family friend.

On Monday morning, the father is said to have summoned the boy for a talk. The boy insisted he was tired with school.

But after a lengthy discussion, the boy gave in and they agreed to go back to school on Tuesday accompanied by the father.

“The MP then left the homestead and went to his hotel, which is just nearby, for a political meeting. At around 3pm, the boy accessed the mother’s hand bag, took the keys to the bedroom and the safe. After opening the safe, he took a glock pistol and shot himself on the chin, with the bullet exiting through the back head,” a detective privy with the incident told Shahidi News.

Narok DCI boss Mwenda Etaiba told Shahidi News that they are investigating the incident.
