Brenda Wawire,
KAKAMEGA, Kenya, May 10- A woman and her five-year-old daughter are nursing burn injuries after her family members allegedly set her house ablaze while she was sleeping with her two kids.
The 40-year-old Robina Vulayi sustained burns on her hands and legs while her daughter suffered burn injuries on her face.
The Tuesday morning incident occurred in Mutaho village in Ikolomani sub-county.
According to Vulayi, someone broke down one of the windows in her house and poured petrol inside, before setting it on fire.
“I had a loud bang as the person was breaking down the window,” she said.
Her five-year-old daughter who was dead a sleep was the most affected. Herr nine-year-old son escaped without any injuries.
The community area administrator told Shahidi News that the family has had disputes for two weeks.
The administrator said her husband Cornelius Ajuta and his brothers have been demanding that Vulayi vacates the house with her kids, claiming that she was a witch.
The family had dismantled doors and windows to her house, forcing the security personnel in the area to step in and restore calm in the homestead.
Vulayi, the second wife to her husband with whom they have lived together for 13 years and blessed with 2 kids is now crying for justice since she has nowhere to live with her two kids.
She claims that she was threatened by her co-wife Agnetta Ajutaa, a day before the incident.
The two were treated at a nearby dispensary and then referred to Kakamega General hospital for further observation.
Those behind the incident are people well known to Vulayi and she has called upon the security agents to step in and grant her and her children justice.
