NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 15- Deputy President William Ruto has nominated Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua as his running mate for the August 9 polls.
On Sunday, DP Ruto made the announcement in a press conference held at his official Karen residence.
“He is passionate about the ordinary people,” the Deputy President said while revealing that he had helped him develop the ‘bottom-up’ economic model.
“I nominate my good friend Rigathi Gachagua to be my running mate in the August 9, 2022, presidential election.”
DP Ruto hailed Gachagua as an “astute debater, a fantastic grassroots mobilized, a successful elected politician and business person, a fearless fighter for the right cause, an emphatic champion of the betrayed, persecuted, downtrodden and the ignored and a living example of a true hustler.”
He is said to have scored “excellent points on every evaluative parameter.”
He said he chose Gachagua from other worthy candidates who made it to the shortlist among them Governor Anne Waiguru, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki, Murang’a Women Representative Alice Wahome, and Speaker Justin Muturi.
In accepting the nomination, Gachagua said, “this is the biggest day in my life and I truly thank you our Deputy President for the trust and confidence you have bestowed on me.”
And he pledged that “he will not let Kenyans and the Hustler nation down.”
The Deputy President said, “Waiguru missed it by a whisker.”
