NAIROBI, Kenya, May 15- If elected the fifth President of Kenya on August 9, Deputy President William Ruto says he will sign an Executive Order giving his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua formal roles on his first day in State House.
The move is meant to shield Gachagua from being exposed to ‘humiliation’, like himself, and that he has a defined job.
He said the order will aim to provide his running mate an expanded role with the provisions of the Kenyan constitution.
This will help him avoid his current situation where his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta accused him of absconding duty.
The President would later sign an Executive Order assigning his roles to Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiangi.
“On my first day in office, I have every intention to sign an Executive Order according to article 21E of the Kenya Kwanza coalition agreement to clarify the roles of a Deputy President which will include coordinating Cabinet affairs,” said Ruto.
The Deputy Presiden said that having occupied the DP’s office for almost 10 years, there was a need to define its roles.
