    By Eric Ayiro,

KAKAMEGA, Kenya, May 19- Police in Khwisero Sub-County Kakamega County are investigating an incident where a 40-year-old man is alleged to have beaten his 36-year-old wife to death after a domestic quarrel in Eshirandu village Kisa North Location.

According to the deceased sister Mary Awinja, the fight between the two started when her sister Grace Atieno invited their church members including their pastors for an evening fellowship at their home, but her husband wasn’t in agreement with the occasion.

It is at that point that the accused Sunday Alwanga is accused to have picked a quarrel with the wife and hit the deceased, who immediately collapsed and died later when she was being taken to hospital.

“They had come here for evening prayers but my in-law was not pleased with the visitors and suddenly a fight ensued between them that led to the death of my sister,” she said.

According to the area police boss Samwel Kogo, detectives are still trying to figure out the cause of the death, as they wait for the autopsy report.

‘We cannot say that the slap is exactly the cause of the death. We are waiting for the investigating officers to do their job, before take action,” he said.

The body of the deceased was taken to Kakamega County General Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Wilkister Nekesa who is one of the neighbors told Shahidi News that the couple has been having frequent fights.

Human rights activists led by Nancy Njomo are now calling for the immediate arrest of the accused who is still roaming freely in the village.

Njomo is questioning why the police are not acting swiftly on the matter, for the victim to get justice.
