NAIROBI, Kenya, May, 23 – The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has urged Kenyans living in the diaspora to verify their registration details by June,4,2022 ahead of August,9, general reelections.
According to the poll body, Kenyans can comply with the directive by visiting various embassies and High Commission offices where the diaspora polling station has been set up. Individuals are required to carry either their ID or Kenyan passport.
The exercise will be ongoing for registered Kenyan voters residing in Tanzania, Uganda, South Sudan, Rwanda, Burundi, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, United Kingdom, Germany, USA, or Canada.
Alternatively, voters have been advised to send their ID numbers or passport (year of birth) to SMS service number 7000 or even visit the official website http://verify.iebc.or.ke
“The Commission Voter Verification team arrived in Germany & opened up the Diaspora Polling Station at Kenya Embassy in Berlin allowing Kenyan citizens living in Germany to walk in and verify their biometric voter registration details ahead of 9th August,” said IEBC.
The IEBC team will be in the locations for at least 15 days before the exercise comes to a conclusion.
Meanwhile, the Commission Monday held a pre-candidate registration meeting for presidential aspirants hosted by the National Returning officer for the presidential election and Chairman of IEBC Wafula Chebukati at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi.
During the meeting, poll body officials sought to, clarify legal requirements for candidate registration, enable aspirants to get familiar with the registration process and requirements, and promote commitment to objective, impartial, efficient, accurate, accountable, safe, and secure candidate registration.
