NAIROBI, Kenya, May, 23 – Former Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko may soon be forced to return to the corridors of justice after a woman sued him for failure to provide child support for their 15-year-old daughter.
According to court documents, the ex-county honcho neglected his parental responsibilities with the mother of the child now seeking Sh448,450.
The money is expected to cater for food and shopping, rent, security, clothing, house help, entertainment, medical cover, education, transport, and utilities.
Before the matter comes up for determination, the woman now wants the court to also direct Sonko to clear the child’s school fees while also providing Sh86,000 and Sh30,450 for school fees and other school requirements respectively.
She claims that the school their form two daughter is in is demanding a fee balance of Sh37,000. She is allegedly yet to return back to school because of the fee balance.
“Mr Sonko and I are the biological parents of the minor herein,” says the woman who further noted, “The unequal treatment has affected the minor psychologically as she does not understand why her father is abrasive towards her. Besides, the minor has been bullied and ridiculed in school because of her surname thus causing her emotional trauma, and has indicated she wants to be transferred from the school,”
With Sonko being a prominent public figure, the mother of the minor says that she is entitled to equal treatment as his other children.
The two allegedly met back in 1999 before having a child together on April 17, 2007.
The case was filed at the Ngong magistrate court.
“Mr Sonko has always been defiant and brazen to accept responsibility and assist me with the maintenance of the minor. He has over the years willfully withdrawn support towards the maintenance of the minor thus denying her what is rightfully hers and forcing me to take full responsibility for the minor,” she says.
Court documents filed by the woman’s lawyer Dan Okemwa, reveal that they have kept in touch over the years with Sonko helping on occasions in various financial situations.
It was further revealed that several discussions have been held with the ex-county chief over paternity concerns.
“I have always been willing to have a DNA test done to prove the paternity of the minor, a fact which Sonko is well aware of as we have discussed the same on several occasions,” she says in her affidavit.
Before the case is determined, the mother will continue living with her child until it s mentioned on May 26, 2022.
