NAIROBI, KENYA, May 24- Police are investigating an incident in which a patient jumped to death from his ward at the Kenyatta National Hospital.
The patient jumped from the seventh floor of the hospital and landed on the ground floor. He died on spot.
He had been admitted there on April 28 over pneumonia-related complications.
It is not clear what motivated the move but police are investigating the incident. It is not the first such incident to happen at the facility amid calls for more measures to address the trend.
The World Health Organisation says such cases of suicide are attributed to joblessness, the breakup of relationships or a death, academic failures or pressures, legal difficulties, financial difficulties, bullying, previous suicide attempts, history of suicide in a family, alcoholism and substance misuse, depression and bipolar disorder.
WHO calls suicide a serious global public health issue, among the top 20 leading causes of death worldwide.
