    By Carolyne Necheza,

KAKAMEGA, Kenya, Jun 2- A man accused of raping and killing a 6-year-old pupil has been lynched by a mob in Nnambacha village, Kakamega County.

The suspect is said to have committed the callous act and then proceed to kill the grade 2 pupil.

    He later buried her remains.

Police said the body of the child was found with a stabbing wound on her neck. She was a student at a Muslim Primary school in the area.

An agitated mob killed the suspect and later lynched his body.

He is said to have been a casual worker at the deceased home. The 22-year-old man was manning the home alongside the children since the parents had gone out to do business.

The deceased mother Linet Waswa, who is a trader at the local market, said she trusted the boy who has been helping her with domestic chores.

She however said the suspect was a drug addict.

“It is sad that I had to lose my daughter this way,” a teary Waswa told Shahidi News.

Family members led by the uncles’ Abas Malava and Waswa Bernard have laid the blame on police officers saying there is a lot of drugs and bhang in the locality.

Many youths are said to be indulging in drugs in the area.

According to locals, the slain suspect whom they describe as hardworking never showed signs of causing harm to the children and has been helping many people with chores despite being a drug addict.

Area Sub-County Police Commander Richard Omanga confirmed the incident but called on the public not to take the law into to their hands while dealing with suspects of crime.

He also challenged parents and guardians to keep a vigil on their children to ensure they are safe.

The bodies of the two were moved to Kakamega hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem examination.
