NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun, 8 – David Kipngetich Bett was arraigned at the Kibera Law Courts and accused of allegedly threatening to strangle his wife and burn her inside her home in Dagoretti, Nairobi county.
The accused appeared before Resident Magistrate Jaqueline Ojwang’ and was charged with threatening to kill his wife, Persis Chepkoech Kuyioni on diverse dates between May 15 and June 6, 2022.
Court documents revealed that the accused said,“I will strangle you or set ablaze your rented house” to the victim. His utterances were deemed to have intended to cause fear to his wife.
The court was further informed that the two have been facing several marital challenges and even at one point forced the victim to leave their home in turn moving into another rental house.
Bett is even said to have followed his wife to his new house and strangled her in front of her relatives before she was aided and taken to safety.
On June 6, 2022 police were called to the scene amidst constant death threats from the accused.
He denied the charges and was released on a bond of Sh200, 000 and an alternative cash bail of Sh100, 000.
The case will be mentioned on June 29, 2022.
