NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun, 14 – The National Police Service Spokesperson Bruno Shioso has refuted claims that a police officer allegedly harassed a reveller at a Nairobi bar clarifying that the woman in question is actually an enforcement officer at the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS).
A viral video depicted the woman, who appeared to be inebriated being involved in an altercation in the undated video.
The woman can be seen harassing the reveller and even claiming that as a ‘police officer’ she is entitled to undertake an unprocedural search of her purse and mobile phone.
She further demanded to be provided with a license of the entertainment joint while threatening to arrest her.
“You are a civilian you cannot ask for a permit,” said the lady when asked to show her ID.
“The impression created by the clip supposes that the said lady is a police officer misusing her law enforcement powers. This is to confirm to the public that the said lady as portrayed is not a police officer under NPS as believed but an enforcement officer working for Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS). Any claim made by her being a police inspector is viewed as an impersonation of a police officer,” said Bruno Shioso in a statement.
Upon an altercation, the police imposter was shortly after restrained by a man alleged to be her boyfriend.
It is not yet clear whether administrative action will be taken against the woman.
