NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun, 15 – The fate of Nairobi gubernatorial candidate Johnson Sakaja ahead of the August 9, 2022 elections hangs in the balance after the Commission for University Education (CUE ) revoked its earlier recognition of a degree from a Ugandan university that he presented to the commission.
Sakaja once the clearance had received the green light to contest the country’s capital gubernatorial seat.
CUE chair Prof Chacha Nyaigotti in a signed letter notified the senator that it would need time to investigate and ascertain the validity of his degree certificate.
“Consequently, in accordance with the CUE recognition procedures, we hereby revoke the recognition of your degree -Bachelor of Science in Management (External) from the aforementioned university,” read a section of the letter.
Sakaja had presented a degree certificate and transcripts from the Team University in Uganda during his Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) clearance.

Sakaja refuted claims that he does not have a degree, reiterating that the one he presented to the poll body in order to be cleared was legitimate.
In a response to a complaint filed against him, Sakaja said that he holds a Bachelor of Science in Management degree conferred to him by Team University in Uganda.
“My qualifications and academic credentials are not in doubt having affirmed through a lawful process,” reads the papers
The politician said that the Team University is in Uganda and is duly recognized.
Sakaja also dismissed names associated with him in the complaint.
“The complaints herein are legally incompetent, fatally defective having been lodged outside the prescribed statutory timelines,” he said
He further restated that his credentials are available in the graduation documents.
