NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun, 14 – Nairobi gubernatorial candidate Johnson Sakaja has refuted claims that his dream to contest the county’s top job has ended after the Commission for University Education (CUE ) revoked its earlier recognition of a degree from a Ugandan university that he presented to the commission.
Sakaja in a statement pointed an accusing finger at President Uhuru Kenyatta saying that he had allegedly coerced and intimidated CUE chairperson Prof Chacha Nyaigotti Chacha to illegally revoke the recognition of accreditation issued to him.
“The commission conducted due diligence by first writing to their counterpart in Uganda National Council of Higher Education, which in turn wrote to the University. The commission confirmed the authenticity of the qualification from Team University through the National Council of Higher Education and thus recognized my qualifications. These are the documents that the Nairobi County Returning officer used to clear me as per the law,” read the statement.
Sakaja further alleged that president Kenyatta was using state machinery to intimidate institutions in Kenya and Uganda in order to revoke the recognition of his qualifications
“They have sent officials from the Kenya High Commission in Uganda to intimidate Team University staff as well as that country’s National Council for Higher Education in Uganda. The only institution that succumbed to this intimidation is the Kenya CUE,”
“Let the people decide,” Sakaja told Kenyatta further stating that Nairobians have rejected his project.
The UDA gubernatorial candidate is said to be in direct competition with Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliances and Jubilee Candidate Polycarp Igathe.
CUE chair Prof Chacha Nyaigotti in a signed letter notified the senator that it would need time to investigate and ascertain the validity of his degree certificate.
“Consequently, in accordance with the CUE recognition procedures, we hereby revoke the recognition of your degree -Bachelor of Science in Management (External) from the aforementioned university,” read a section of the letter.
Sakaja had presented a degree certificate and transcripts from the Team University in Uganda during his Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) clearance.
Following heated discussions over the authenticity of Nairobi Gubernatorial candidate Johnson Sakaja’s degree certificate, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate had called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) tribunal to dismiss the complaint filed against him.
Sakaja refuted claims that he does not have a degree, reiterating that the one he presented to the poll body in order to be cleared was legitimate.
