NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun, 20 – United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Nairobi gubernatorial candidate Johnson Sakaja is expected to appear before two institutions Monday, The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Commission For University Education (CUE) over the ongoing debate over the authenticity of his degree certificate.
Sakaja is now expected to make his first stop at CUE offices on Monday at 10 am.
CUE Chairperson Prof. Chacha Nyaigoti Chacha asked the gubernatorial candidate to provide material evidence proving his academic qualifications among them admission letter, student ID, transcripts, receipts of tuition fees paid to Teams University, graduation photos, and a list of lecturers who taught him at the institution.
“The commission received complaints from members of the public and civil society casting doubts on the authenticity of the degree certificate submitted to CUE by Hon. Sakaja. The gravity of the matters raised, made the Commission to revoke its decision to recognize the degree qualification in Kenya pending further investigations in liaison with other relevant investigative agencies,” said Prof Nyaigotti.
CUE said his certification remained revoked until proved otherwise while at the same time saying that universities involved with the issuance of fake degree certificates will be blacklisted.
Meanwhile, the Serious Crimes Unit of the DCI has also summoned Sakaja over forgery allegations of his degree certificate.
The Head of Serious Crimes Kuria Obadiah told the senator to show up at the DCI Kiambu road headquarters at 2 pm.
He was asked to present the application letter he sent to Team University, his admission letter, and school fee payment records. The Nairobi senator is also supposed to give a clearance letter from the Speaker of the Senate to show he was allowed to travel to Uganda for his studies or any other activities.
Over the weekend, IEBC dismissed the complaint challenging Johnson Sakaja’s degree certificate.
The committee argued that IEBC has no investigative machinery to investigate the validity of documents.
Skate hailed the determination of the case saying that ultimately, the people of Nairobi will decide who will be their next governor.
