NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun, 26 – 90 per cent of candidates that sat their 2021 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and scored a mean grade of C plus and above after applying to join various universities and technical and vocational education and training (TVETs) have successfully been placed.
Education cabinet secretary Prof. George Magoha during the release of the 2022/2023 universities and colleges student placement results said that 85 per cent of the candidates were placed in universities to pursue various degree courses while 5 per cent were placed in TVETs.
A total of 250,052 were placed during the exercise.
The placement exercise was facilitated by the Kenya University Colleges Central Placement Services (KUCCPS) through its online portal.
“Of the 144,466 Kenyan citizen candidates who qualified for degree programmes, 123,963 (85 per cent) were placed to universities (67,237 male and 56,726 female). 5,278 have been placed to TVET institutions by choice,” said Magoha.
Noticeably,16,310 candidates who qualified for degree programmes in the 2021 KCSE examination did not submit their applications.
The CS attributed this to candidates seeking alternative education avenues including studying abroad.
A total of 600,000 placement slots were available for selection across universities, TVET institutions and, Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs).
According to KUCCPS 124,258 applicants (55,553 male and 68,705 female) were placed in TVET institutions, while 1,528 were assigned to pursue a diploma in Primary Teacher Education and Early Childhood Teacher Education.
Candidates can now confirm their placement status on the KUCCPS portal as 2022 KCSE candidates will on July 1, 2022, be able to make their application.
